• Office Open XML: At its Plenary meeting on October 1, 2008, ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC 34 approved the creation of Working Group 1 (WG1), which will be responsible for the long-term maintenance of the "Office Open XML" standard IS 29500. IS 29500 is in the final stage of publication, and as soon as is practical, Ecma will publish a 2nd edition of ECMA-376 to match 29500. These standards are based on the XML produced by the Microsoft Office 12 suite. I serve as editor of these standards.
   
• XML Paper Specification (XPS): In June 2007, Ecma approved the creation of a new Technical Committee, TC46, to produce a standard. Copies of working drafts of TC46's work can be obtained here. I serve as editor of this standard.
   
• Late in 2008, I took over as chair of ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC 22, the committee that oversees ISO programming language and environment standards development. I am acting in that role until November 2008, at which time my permanent 3-year term will begin.
